FAQs
Online medical coding course — frequently asked questions
Is medical coding hard to learn?
No, if you are comfortable with basic biology and pay attention to detail. The course starts with anatomy and medical terms, then teaches ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS step by step, with case practice and mock exams. Most of the work is learning the rules and practising them.
How do I become a medical coder in India?
Finish a degree in life sciences, pharmacy, nursing or another allied health field. Then train in ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding, and ideally pass the AAPC CPC exam. Most freshers start as trainee or junior medical coders in healthcare BPOs, billing companies and hospitals.
What is the medical coding course duration and fee?
The online course runs for 3 months, with live classes Monday to Friday. The fee is ₹25,000 (list price ₹34,999). Paying the full fee online when you apply gives 5% off, and instalments are available. The AAPC or AHIMA exam fee is paid to the certifying body and is not included.
Is an online medical coding certificate valid for jobs?
Online and classroom students learn the same syllabus from the same trainers and receive the same BCRI Certificate in Medical Coding. Employers mainly look at your coding skills, and many prefer the AAPC CPC credential, which the course prepares you for.
What is the difference between CPC and CCS?
CPC (Certified Professional Coder) is awarded by AAPC and is the most common credential for outpatient, physician-office and BPO coding. CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) is awarded by AHIMA and suits hospital inpatient coding; it is more advanced. Most freshers take CPC first.
Can I learn medical coding at home?
Yes. All classes are live online, so you can learn from home anywhere in India. You need a laptop or computer and a stable internet connection. Recorded sessions help you revise or catch up on a missed class.
Can nurses and pharmacy graduates do medical coding?
Yes. Nursing, B.Pharm and M.Pharm graduates are well suited to medical coding because they already know medical terms and anatomy. Graduates in BDS, BAMS, BHMS, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and life sciences can also join.
What is the CPC exam format?
AAPC’s CPC exam has 100 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours, and you need 70% to pass. You may bring three code books: CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II. If you pass without two years of coding work, you become a CPC-A (apprentice) until you meet AAPC’s experience rules.
Is the CPC exam fee included in the course fee?
No. The CPC exam is conducted by AAPC, and its fee is paid directly to AAPC. BCRI prepares you for the exam with study material, mock exams and review sessions.
Does BCRI provide placement support for online students?
Yes. Our placement team helps with your resume, interview practice and job referrals to healthcare and billing companies. The employer makes the final hiring decision based on your interview, so a job is not guaranteed.
