Certification
BCRI certificate and the AAPC CPC exam
On completion you receive the BCRI Certificate of Completion in Medical Coding, listing ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS. It carries BCRI’s ISO 9001:2015 mark.
Most learners then take the AAPC CPC exam. It has 100 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours, and you need 70% to pass. You may bring three code books: CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS Level II. If you pass without two years of coding work, you are a CPC-A (apprentice) until you meet AAPC’s experience rules. The exam is run and charged for by AAPC, not BCRI.
